Fisher Transitional Services would like to share our latest success story:
FTS has been providing transitional housing for young men ages 18 – 25 in the Michael Ingram Home. We want to share a success story of one of these young men. We will call this resident Joe, to allow for his privacy.
Joe came to the Michael Ingram Home by a referral from DVR approximately 5 years ago. He will be moving into his very own subsidized apartment the end of February. FTS has been working with Joe to learn the skills he needs to maintain his own dwelling. This has included cleaning, paying rent, budgeting, and personal hygiene. When Joe came to the Michael Ingram Home, he was on SSI. He is now working full time. Joe placed applications for subsidized housing upon entering the program and was consistent with providing updates to remain on the waitlist for 5 years. He now has the confidence to live on his own and maintain his place, with no concerns. He is aware of community resources, such as food closets and free assistance with taxes. FTS allows any resident that successfully completes our program to take any furniture they need with them.
Thanks to DVR counselors, who have made referrals to our housing program. We also have another previous resident that was referred by DVR, who has been living in his own subsidized apartment for the past 4 years. We share in their success.
We currently have 2 openings in our program. If you know someone that qualifies for the program, feel free to contact us. Please keep in mind, the program charges 1/3 of their income and they must be able to live on their own as a goal. If you have a potential resident, I suggest contacting Kathy, Assistant Director, to discuss before putting in the application.
Kathy can be reached at 302-229-8364.
Applications can be emailed, faxed or mailed.
